EMBROIDERED MAMACITA TANK

I swear all I wear now a days is jeans and t-shirts.  BUT- I do try to elevate my outfits juuust a little bit. Whether it’s tucking in my tee, adding a clip to my hair, putting on a hat– just take that basic tee up a notch!

One of my favorite new t-shirts (that I wear basically as soon as it comes out of the wash) is my Mama Bird tee from the Bee and the Fox. Annnd I have to admit- I’ve had my eye on this shirt WELL before I was ever even pregnant and just new I had to have it once I became a mama. It goes with any pair of pants, skirts, shorts and anything in between. And my favorite part- it really doesn’t feel like I’m just wearing a plain tee shirt! Honestly I’d love to own just about every t-shirt on their site and have browsed their selection many times…

ON MAMA: RVCA TANK, MADEWELL JEANS, MIA & MAC NECKLACE
ON SHEPARD: OLD NAVY HAT, THRIFTED SHORTS, GIFTED ONSIE

So as I was browsing my own closet (and probably grabbing the same jeans and tee I wore last week) it dawned on me! I had this muscle tank/mock neck shirt hanging in my closet that a friend gave me and I just knew what I had to do! I was reminded of this tank and knew I could DIY my own.

SUPPLIES:

  • Plain tee or tank
  • Sewing needle
  • Embroidery thread
  • Disappearing ink pen for fabric
BEFORE

First, I messed around with some fonts in the OVER app and found one I liked and felt very similar to my inspiration and typed out “Mamacita” in black text over a white background. I then tried on my shirt and marked where I thought the text should go. Next, in my very high tech way of transferring the text to my shirt I had my lit up phone under my shirt and traced the text with a disappearing ink pen and then with a regular pencil as well (since my pen and shirt both happen to be purple).

Then I turned on Hulu to get caught up watching This Is Us. Ha! But before that I had to refresh my memory on how to do the type of embroidery stitch I planned to use. I used the backstitch method and watched this quick video as a refresher. I decided on black embroidery thread and got started (on my show and the stitching)! I split the embroidery thread off into two strands for a more refined look.

DONE! This was such an easy project- and it turned out so good! You really could customize it any way you want! (You could also be a bit more creative than me and come up with your own design… but hey, whatever works!) But I just love how it took a basic tee and elevated it so much! I may just have to add my new shirt to the weekly rotation!

I’ve done this before with another shirt and it has held up VERY well so I have high hopes for my “new” shirt!

Now for some more This Is Us (and maybe some wine too!)
